La Paz Medical Center
Malabo, Equatorial Guinea
A 27,000 square meter comprehensive medical campus in Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea, the only advanced medical facility in this major city. The self-sustaining campus includes a hospital, staff residences and community center, as well as a hotel and auxiliary buildings.
The site posed many challenges. Located on a steep incline that rises from the Atlantic Ocean, the buildings were positioned to enjoy maximum exposure to the ocean view, while enabling drainage of large amounts of precipitation.
The multidisciplinary medical building includes an ER, out-patient clinics, imaging department, dialysis unit, ICU, cardiac center, orthopedics, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, surgical wing with 4 operating theaters, pre- and post op units, 2 labor and delivery rooms, Caesarean operating room, neo-natal department, NICU, and 3 in-patient departments of 38 beds each.
The auxiliary buildings include a logistics building, power plant, staff housing and community center. A superpharm and hotel are located at the outskirts of the site to allow access to guests from outside the campus.
